PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COPING BEHAVIOR AMONG ADOLESCENTS IN OVERCOMING STRESS
Abstract
The article discusses problems associated with the peculiarities of coping behavior of adolescents.
The concepts of such terms as "stress", "coping", "coping behavior", "overcoming behavior", "coping strategies", "coping resources", "adolescent", "adolescence", "a stressful situation" are analyzed.
It is noted that under such circumstances as growing number and variety of stressful situations, the change in the structure of social roles, acquiring new values and norms, development of self-awareness and deepening reflection, negative experiences related to adolescent crisis, sense of maturity, unstable self-esteem, accelerated physiological changes, fear of being unrecognized are powerful stress-factors that cause different strength and intensity of stress for teenagers.
Emphasized that the dominant reaction of adolescents to a stressful situation is the reaction of protest, a symbolic escape from extreme situations or attempts to make a constructive conclusion from past failures. The age norm for a teenager is an emotional level of response to the “hazards” of life.
It is noted that in adolescence own individual style of coping with stress (coping style) is not formed. Often adolescents use non-adaptive coping strategies that will adversely affect their current status and may have a negative influence on the adaptive capacity in adulthood.
