Abstract

The article presents comprehensive theoretical and methodological conceptualization of mental resources of personality within psychological-hermeneutic approach. The relevance of this research is determined by active and often uncritical use of resource rhetoric in contemporary psychology, which leads to conceptual ambiguity and conflation of mental resources with various psychological constructs, particularly psychological mechanisms, abilities, coping strategies, resilience, and competencies. Such confusion of analytical levels complicates theoretical understanding of the phenomenon and limits possibilities for its empirical operationalization. The aim of the article is to substantiate mental resources as an independent theoretical construct and to perform their systematic differentiation from related psychological concepts within psychological-hermeneutic perspective. The methodological foundation consists of principles of psychological-hermeneutic analysis, conceptual generalization, and comparative theoretical differentiation of contemporary scientific approaches. It is demonstrated that mental resources should be defined as dynamic modes of personal regulation, which are formed through actualization, interpretation, and appropriation of personal and sociocultural experience, enabling articulation and realization of personally significant possibilities under conditions of uncertainty, crisis transformations, and meaning disruptions. It is substantiated that mental resources capture a specific regulatory level of mental organization, which cannot be reduced either to causal mechanisms or to stable dispositional properties of personality. The applied potential of the proposed conception for psychological counseling and psychoeducational interventions is outlined. The proposed approach expands explanatory possibilities of contemporary psychology and creates methodological foundation for further empirical research on mental resources of personality.
