The thesis argues that the life competence of an adult plays a decisive role in the adaptation of an adult to a crisis situation. The most significant components of the life competence potential of an adult during a military invasion are identified, and the mechanisms of actualization of the components of life competence in the context of military reality are also traced. The empirical part of the study is based on narrative and discursive models of analysis with the addition of a situational approach. The main object of analysis is the crisis narrative of adults at different stages of the crisis situation generated by martial law. The goal was to analyze how the awareness and mastery of certain “meanings” enabled an adult to find a way to experience a crisis situation, to “accept” its inevitability, and to find ways to adapt. The analysis involved materials from social networks, media, and previous surveys. The analysis of the obtained empirical data allowed us to identify and substantiate the most significant facets of life competence: (a) situational-worldview block - the ability to realize the real context of life; acceptance of the variability of the world; a desire for transcendence; (b) informational-cognitive block - the presence of semiotic, narrative and interpretative competences, as well as competence in solving semantic problems; (c) strategic-behavioral block - the ability to solve life problems; readiness to resist adverse circumstances; openness to new experience; (d) axiological block - awareness of one's own hierarchy of values; (e) reflective-subjective block - the presence of reflective competence; readiness for value self-determination and self-identification; subjectivity in solving one's problems; principledness and will in adhering to one's system of values and one's goals; (e) communication-emotional block – the ability to empathize and sympathize; readiness for targeted help; mastery of communicative competence; (g) resource block – active search for means of stress relief. The deep systemic connection of all identified components and mechanisms of life competence of an adult is analyzed. It is argued that the dynamics of life competence is associated with the maturation of the subjectness of a person, which is expressed in the development of self-identification, metacognition, strong-willed qualities, etc.
