Abstract

According to various statistics, 1 to 4% of the population, mainly (80%) women have otosclerosis. The disease starts at young age (17- 40), exclusively in children under 10 year; it manifests itself or becomes active during puberty, pregnancy and childbirth. Otosclerosis is most common in  white people, much less among black people andnever happens in Indians. Otosclerosis is considered a hereditary disease with autosomal dominant inheritance. Otosclerosis results in  hearing loss and tinnitus, which often leads to decrease in efficiency and significant limitation of communication with other people. Clinical interview reveals the features of the emotional response of otosclerosis patients. Such patients often complain of anxiety, that in the future may lead to anxiety disorders such as social phobia, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, etc. Therefore it is important to use clinical interview to identify patient’s attitude to otosclerosis  manifested in emotional response to the disease.

Based on the results of  clinical interviews of patients with otosclerosis, the highest figures were obtained for the scales of anxiety and the need for empathy. Following the most pronounced signs of emotional response in patients with otosclerosis were defined: sensitivity, passivity, sleep disorders, the need for empathy, and anxiety. The data used to develop a comprehensive program of differentiated medical and psychological care to patients with otosclerosis.
