The article examines the psychological characteristics of an educational coach as a subject of educational and professional socialization of students in higher education institutions. In the context of rapid social development and growing demand for specialists with high levels of professional and social competence, the question of the psychological characteristics of a higher education teacher capable of purposefully facilitating students' educational and professional socialization is gaining particular scientific and practical importance, while remaining insufficiently explored. The purpose of the article is to identify the personal characteristics of an educational coach that influence the effectiveness of students' educational and professional socialization and to construct a conceptual model of these characteristics. Methods: theoretical analysis of scientific literature, synthesis and systematization of data, conceptual modelling. Results. An educational coach is defined as a higher education teacher whose primary goal is to facilitate students' educational and professional socialization — a process through which students acquire the professional competencies necessary for future practice by internalizing social norms and values and adopting professional roles. The study establishes that an educational coach implements this process through three functional blocks: analytical-prognostic, projective-organizational, and productive-communicative. A conceptual model of the educational coach's professionally important characteristics has been developed, which includes: social intelligence, empathy, facilitativeness, intrapersonal emotional intelligence, attractiveness, psycho-pedagogical tact, verbal and non-verbal competence, strategic planning, and leadership orientation. Each characteristic is linked to a corresponding functional block and contributes to the integrity of the coach's socializing psycho-pedagogical influence on students. Conclusions. The effectiveness of educational and professional socialization is determined by the integrated implementation of all three functions of the educational coach. The findings may be applied to the development of professional development programmes for higher education teachers and to the formation of requirements for academic staff.
