The article is deals with the analysis of the understanding of the concept of emotional intelligence in psychology and the empirical study of the relationship between emotional intelligence and personality traits: empathy (emotional), reflection (cognitive), and the ability to self-control and self-management (volitional trait).
It is noted that despite the fact that the phenomenon of emotional intelligence, according to some scientists, still lacks legitimacy in psychological science, its research is actively continuing, its number is constantly growing, and its scientists are convinced that emotional intelligence is worth training.
It is stated that the interpretation of the concept of emotional intelligence by different scientists, as well as its structures, still differ little, resembling its classical definition by J. Mayer, P. Salovey.
The following methods were used in the study: for the diagnosis of emotional intelligence (N. Schutte and N. Hall), «The Self-Control and Self-Management Scale (SCMS)» P. Mezo, methods for assessing the reflexivity of the personality by V.V. Ponomareva, A.V. Karpov and diagnostics of the level of empathic abilities by V.V. Boyko. Statistical processing of the results was carried out using Spearmen rs and one-way ANOVA.
It is concluded that emotional intelligence can be understood as intelligence that deals with human emotions and emotionally colored information, focusing on the perception, understanding, use and regulation of human emotions and relying on their volitional qualities. Correlation analysis according to the results of the study revealed a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and volitional characteristics of the personality, a negative relationship with reflection and its forms, and an ambiguous relationship between the components of empathy and the indicator and components of emotional intelligence (with a positive relationship between its general indicator and emotional intelligence). The use of one-way ANOVA confirmed the possibility of the influence of empathy, reflection, the ability to self-control and self-management, and the emotional intelligence on other studied indicators.
