COLLEGE STUDENTS’ INTRINSIC MOTIVATION DEVELOPMENT AT THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE LESSONS

The article is devoted to intrinsic motivation research. The features of intrinsic motivation are described, the attention is drawn to the significance of intrinsic motivation development in colleges, main approaches to study of this phenomenon that are available in Psychology are considered in the article. Social factors that influence intrinsic motivation development are tracked down. On the basis of study and analysis of theoretical material devoted to intrinsic motivation as well as on the basis of work experience in a college recommendations on college students’ intrinsic motivation development have been worked out by the author: (1) to give the students the right of choice; (2) to teach them autonomy; (3) not to overload the learning process with very dense monitoring and regulation; (4) to study students’ interests and modulate the tasks so that they agree with these interests; (5) choose the tasks of optimal complexity; (6) to offer more often the tasks that give the students the opportunity to react actively, but not perceive and perform passively; (7) to approach theory to practice to maximum extend; (8) to provide feedback constantly; (9) to offer gamelike activities or activities that have game features; (10) to ask more problem questions that stimulate logical thinking, creative approach; (11) to work at creation of friendly atmosphere in the group; (12) to work at making up positive image of the teacher; (13) to offer more often activities directed to students’ cooperation; (14) to try to get to know better the students as personalities; (15) to explain to the students more often the necessity to perform the set tasks for their competence development.
