Abstract

The article deals with the concept of emotional intelligence of the individual. It was found out that emotional intelligence serves as the subject of scientific knowledge in the modern domestic and foreign psychological research. However, the theoretical concept of emotional intelligence remains insufficiently developed, which is reflected in the absence of a clear and decisive definition of psychological essence of this concept, its structural components, functions and mechanisms of psychological development.

The emotional intelligence is regarded as the integral feature of the individual, which reflects the cognitive ability to understand human emotions and manage them through cognitive processing of emotional information, and provides the psychological well-being of the individual and the success of social interaction.

Functional features of emotional intelligence are analyzed. It has been established that in modern psychology the following features of emotional intelligence of personality is identified by researchers: protective and adaptive, reflective and regulatory; it is determined the relationship between emotional intelligence and motivational orientation of human to achieve the purpose of the activity; the role of emotional intelligence in ensuring the communicative competence of the individual is found out.

It is proved that emotional intelligence is not only difficult, but also a multifunctional phenomenon. It is emphasized leading features of emotional intelligence of the person, which include regulatory, protective and adaptive functions.
